Plug adapter checker
Any country to any country: plug fit, voltage and frequency, from the data behind every country page.
Adapter needed, and the voltage is different.
- Plugs
- A/B → GNone fit
- Voltage
- 120 V → 230 VDifferent range
- Frequency
- 60 Hz → 50 HzDifferent
- Type A plug: no matching socket in the United Kingdom
- Type B plug: no matching socket in the United Kingdom
Mains voltage is 230 V in the United Kingdom and 120 V in the United States. The United Kingdom is in the 220–240 V range, the United States in the 100–127 V range.
Check your device’s input rating label: it states the voltage and frequency the device accepts.
Your plugs are the plug types used in the country you travel from (Type E and F count as the E/F hybrid). Voltages are nominal. Data: Wikidata (CC0), cross-checked with Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0, facts only) and national and technical sources, 28 October 2026.
How to use it
Choose the country your devices come from, then the country you are going to. The answer updates as soon as either list changes; the swap button reverses the trip. Without JavaScript the page shows the example above, from the United States to the United Kingdom, and the trips listed below.
Each result can be shared: the address bar keeps both countries, for example /adapter-checker/?from=japan&to=united-states.
What the result means
- Plugs
- All fit, Some fit or None fit: each plug type from home is matched against the socket types used at the destination.
- Voltage
- Same (within 10 V), Same range (both 100–127 V or both 220–240 V), Different range, or Varies by area where a country uses both.
- Frequency
- Same or Different (50 Hz vs 60 Hz); Varies by area for Japan, which uses both.

All 19,182 country pairs at once
Every ordered pair of the 139 countries, run through the checker.

Which sockets take which plugs
The fit rules the checker uses. A socket always takes its own plug type; some also take others.
